The EU-Georgia Association Committee in Trade Configuration Conducts Fourth Meeting in Tbilisi

On December 6th, 2017, the fourth meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Committee in Trade Configuration took place in Tbilisi. Representatives from the governmental agencies involved in the implementation of the DCFTA, as well as members of relevant EU Commission directorates, participated in the meeting.

 

The Committee is a governing body for the implementation of Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) of the Association Agreement and, in accordance with the agreement, the Committee gathers annually for meetings. The meeting locations are rotated between Tbilisi and Brussels consecutively.

 

During the committee meeting, the Georgian side was headed by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Genadi Arveladze, and the European Union side – the Head of Unit for Russia, CIS, Ukraine, Western Balkan, EFTA, EEA, Turkey & Central Asia of the DG Trade E2 European Commission, Petros Sourmelis.

 

Georgia’s progress on the implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area agreement, specifically regarding the matters of trade in goods, customs and trade assistance, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers in trade, intellectual property protection rights, state purchases, postal and courier services, telecommunication, energy, competition, trade and sustainable development were discussed on the Committee meeting.

 

The Georgian side provided the EU representatives with detailed information on the ongoing and fulfilled obligations adopted in frames of the DCFTA in each field.
