Trade and Sustainable Development Sub-committee Meeting in Brussels

On 26 March 2018, the fourth meeting of the EU-Georgia Trade and Sustainable Development Sub-committee under the Association Agreement took place in Brussels.

 

Within the framework of the meeting, members of the Georgian delegation and representatives of the European Commission discussed the status of implementing basic labor standards, which included strengthening labor inspections, increasing the social dialogue, the status of implementing environmental multilateral agreements, etc.  

 

The Georgian delegation presented to the representatives of the European Commission the new law on Occupational Safety and discussed planned amendments to the Labor Code. Furthermore, both parties discussed the implementation process of the 2018-2020 agenda regarding environmental protection and labor related matters.

 

The EU side positively assessed the ongoing and already implemented reforms carried out by Georgia under the commitments of the DCFTA in the field of Trade and Sustainable Development. 

 

It is important to note that a meeting of the joint Civil Society Forum is scheduled on March 27, where the representatives of the EU and Georgian civil societies plan to discuss the main topics in the mentioned field. Both parties will present information on the DCFTA implementation to the members of the Forum.
