The 6th meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Committee in Trade configuration took place in Tbilisi on December 5-6, 2019. Representatives from the government agencies involved in the implementation of the DCFTA and relevant EU Commission directorates participated in the meeting.
During the meeting Georgian side was led by Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Genadi Arveladze, and the European Union side - the Head of Unit for Russia, CIS, Ukraine, Western Balkan, EFTA, EEA, Turkey & Central Asia of the DG Trade E2 European Commission, Petros Sourmelis.
Georgia’s progress in the implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) agreement, specifically regarding the matters of trade in goods, customs and trade assistance, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, intellectual property protection rights, government procurement, telecommunication, postal and courier services, competition, trade and sustainable development were discussed during the Committee meeting.
Special emphasis was put on the reforms implemented in Georgia in the fields of food safety, veterinary and plant protection, customs, public procurement, labour security, market surveillance. The European Commission welcomed the reforms and other measures taken by Georgia to meet DCFTA commitments.
The Committee is a governing body for the implementation of DCFTA of the Association Agreement which, in accordance with the agreement, gathers once a year. The meeting locations rotate between Tbilisi and Brussels.
