SME Finance Facility, Phase II

The SME Finance Facility in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries, combines EBRD, EIB and KfW Development Bank loans or guarantees to participating financial intermediaries (PFIs), for on-lending to eligible enterprises, including micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. Its aim is to rebuild the confidence of financial intermediaries in extending financing to SMEs. The partners seek to enhance the capacity of financial intermediaries, strengthen and deepen SME credit markets and financing, and promote the continued development of market-based financial institutions.

In Phase II, emphasis is placed on stimulating local currency lending – particularly to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises that are not earning foreign currency and could not otherwise afford the associated high costs of borrowing. In terms of activities, the project provides credit enhancement support for SME lending in EaP countries.
